The Coalition Government's economic policies were not sound. They carefully grafted the impression they were the 'superior' economic managers, while driving foreign debt up. They wasted surpluses on tax-cuts, instead of investing in health, education and public infra-structure. They told the RBA to control inflation (using interest rates) while they wrecklessly fuelled inflation with vote-buying fiscal irresponsibility; unnecessary tax-cuts, hand-outs to western suburb teenagers to encourage them to have babies, hand-outs to members of private health insurance funds (but of course the funds simply increased their fees so effectively the government hand-out went straight into the funds' coffers), and allocated an unfair share of government grants to Coalition held electorates. When the RBA was forced to raise interest rates again and again and again, the Coalition cried fowl. They blamed the RBA, the US economy, and even tried to blame the Opposition because somehow their 'talking-down' of the economy overcame the 'incredibly sound management of the Coalition'. Give us a break ! All this disgusting economic mismanagement, while having the despicable gaul to accuse Labor of being incapable of governing. Now that a sufficient portion of the Australian public has finally woken up to the 'smoke-n-mirror' sneakiness of the Howard-Costello farce, we have die-hard Liberal supporters trying to convinve themselves it can't be true. Get over your 'born-to-rule' mentality and give this new fresh government a chance to prove what it can or cannot do, before passing such ridiculous and immature pre-judgement.
