"The Liberals had the best government in australia they kept interest rates low" Ironically, interest rates were at exactly the same the level the day Howard left Office as the day he came to power. In the interim there was a period of political interest rate drops to fuel his government's hunger for power. This created unprecedented foreign debt, rising from under $200 billion to over $600 billion. In response to this economic wrecklessness and incompetence, we endured 10 interest rates hikes prior to Howard's eventual dismissal by the voters. But, this time each 0.25% impactred more ferociously on Australian households who now possesses mortgages of massive proportions. "they stopped inflation the problems that labor had in the 70's and 80's" The reason we have the aforementioned interest rate rises was because of inflation fears under Howard; that were the direct result of vote-buying handouts and fiscal madness. As noted above, more than trebling beyond $600 billion. Yes, govt debt fell, but as private citizens had to pick up cost of fund-stripped public services, they went into much greater debt. The Liberals had the best government in australia they kept interest rates low they stopped inflation the problems that labor had in the 70's and 80's the liberals from 1996 - 2006 had to pay off because labor borrowed money from other countries e.g. china united states to finance our economy. I predict that in the next ten years we will be in billion of dollars of debt as we were under bob hawke & paul keating. John Howard was our greatest pm of todays era better than than our current pm. I hope it will be brendan nelson he will be a better choice than our prime minister sleezebag and his love partner redhead. Every one knows that sleezebag cheated to win the last federal election because he copied john howard's policies. Now john howard was a great prime minister better than damn antichrist sleezebag.
