If we Become A republic this will happen China will walk all over us and take us over what are u nut job republicains thinking of we won't be Austrlia anymore we will a be Chiness country so wake up this is and will take place if we become a republic Posted by: James Mangano (15 Apr 10) |
Republicanism costs the tax payer. We don't pay the queen anything. No good can possibly come from changing and if anything we would only change to the easiest republican form and this would cost us in the long run. If nobdody swears allegence to the crown that leaves us open for any bastard to come along and run us how they like. A republic is unaustralian and a new australia would not be this australia. YES YES YES Australia SHOULD become a republic.Think about it people, Australia is independant but is known to be controlled by England!!!!!!!!! Hello, the queen? She does NOTHIN,but still remain the HEAD of the parliament! How stupid is that, WAKE UP AUSSIES, let be realistic, let someone who can actually do something 4 our country(the president)to be Head of our parliament, let the world know that we are just as proud and independant as america and others!!!!! Saving money is a good idea . Think of the billions we could save by not having the Queens birthday as a holiday . Come to think of it how much does Australia Day cost in lost production ? Yes - everybody back to work . That should fund aged care , hospitals etc . Posted by: vaacum 9 (26 Jan 10) |
We are effectively a Republic now in all but name . Time to call a spade a spade . Posted by: Anonymous (21 Jan 10) |
The queen has no importance to us now. SUre we are of British Heritage but we are so diverse adn don't deserve to be trodded over by another country. Stand up Australia! We need do establish our diversity by becoming a republic. Posted by: Anonymous (10 Nov 09) |
It would be an ABSOLUTE waste of time and resources and an INSULT to the Queen who has been our LOYAL head of state for 55 years! Anyone who believes becoming a republic will achieve anything good is an absolute MORON!! Wake up and think of what it will really achieve - a waste of parliament's time and a whole lot of money removing the word 'Royal' from the various organisations who include it in their name - WAKE UP AUSTRALIA! Think about what good a republic will really achieve - a big fat NOTHING! Posted by: Anonymous (3 Jan 09) |
To address some incorect information made by others I have the following to say, 1. We wont automatically have the right to bear arms, this was added to the US constitution due to the war of independance. 2. There is no British Empire anymore, there is the US empire and the british navy would be absolutely crushed by a more superior Australian military if they tried anything. 3. We do need to become a republic so that we are fully capable of electing our own head of state (President) and not have one appointed (Governer- General). 4. It is imperative that we become a republic in order to have a more relevant constitution and so that we are able to have a bill of rights. Our current constitution refers to New Zealand as a state of Australia and doesn't even guarentee the right to a solicitor should you be arrested. Wake up people and join the 21st century. we are fine the way we are. why shouyld we have to change. it isn't goin to make a big difference in or daily lives. Posted by: lala (16 Sep 08) |
Australia is a multi-cultural society out growing its british heritage. We should become a republic to show some national pride and show we can run our own country without the british. Posted by: Anonymous (17 Aug 08) |
For Australia to become one, we need to cut off our ties with Britian Posted by: Anonymous (29 May 08) |
no freaking way. we would be absolutely bonkers to become a republic. Australia needs to think about the following: how much money will it cost to become a republic, the great british empire with the largest navy in the world would no longer have to save us if someone decides they want our land, they may not want us to become a republic and may find it necesary to fight us before we become a republic, we will no longer be able to compete in the commonwealth games which we rock at, there will be no seperation of powers if we go the common presidentioal way the president has absolute power, we will loose public holidays like the queens birthday etc, we may have the right to bear arms like the USA did in their independance 8 children a day die in america due to guns, do we really want a vice president that has been called a communist on several occations, how much time and effort will it take for little satisfaction, ausralia has a history of going by the motto "if its not broken then why fix it" so if its not broken why fix it and last of all how do the voters know what is really invoved in becoming a republic. I want this nation to grow and this is one way of getting away from having our PM alone taking us down a path of kowtowing to other nations without a second (less politicised) voice having an opinion. If that is distasteful to the PM, tough! Posted by: Nevillew (8 May 08) |
Waste of time and money. We are already independent. Constitutional changes in the process of becoming a republic could be used to screw us over. Posted by: Anonymous (2 Apr 08) |
